1. Our Mission
FirstCross exists to eliminate broker interference in the rental market and create a transparent, trustworthy platform where genuine property owners and verified working professionals can connect directly. These Community Guidelines establish the standards of conduct that make this mission possible.
Every user plays a vital role in keeping FirstCross broker-free and trustworthy. By using the Platform, you agree to uphold these guidelines and contribute to a respectful, honest community.
2. Core Principles
2.1 Honesty and Transparency
- Provide accurate and truthful information in your profile, listings, and all communications.
- Do not misrepresent your identity, employment status, property ownership, or any other material fact.
- Property listings must accurately reflect the actual condition, availability, pricing, and amenities of the property.
- Photographs must be genuine, recent, and representative of the actual property being listed.
2.2 Respect and Professionalism
- Treat all users with dignity, courtesy, and professionalism.
- Communicate respectfully in all interactions, whether on-platform or off-platform after connection.
- Do not engage in harassment, intimidation, threats, or abusive language of any kind.
- Respect the time and boundaries of other users. Avoid excessive or unwanted contact after connection.
2.3 Non-Discrimination
FirstCross is committed to fair and equal access to housing. All users must comply with the following:
- Do not discriminate against renters or refuse rental based on caste, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, dietary preferences, or any other protected characteristic.
- Property listings and tenant preferences must comply with applicable anti-discrimination laws.
- Discriminatory language or requirements in listings are prohibited and will result in listing removal.
3. Zero-Broker Policy
The foundation of FirstCross is the complete elimination of brokers from the rental process. This policy is strictly enforced.
3.1 Who Cannot Use FirstCross
- Real estate brokers or property agents, whether licensed or unlicensed.
- Property dealers or intermediaries who list properties on behalf of multiple owners.
- Property management companies acting as intermediaries (individual property managers who are authorized by a single owner may use the Platform).
- Any individual or entity whose primary purpose is to collect brokerage fees or commissions from rental transactions.
3.2 Consequences of Broker Activity
- First Offense: Immediate listing removal and account suspension.
- Second Offense: Permanent account ban with no option for reinstatement.
- Circumventing a ban by creating new accounts will result in immediate permanent ban of all associated accounts.
4. Guidelines for Renters
4.1 Responsible Searching
- Use your daily connection requests thoughtfully. Request connections only for properties you are genuinely interested in.
- Review property details, photos, and requirements carefully before sending a connection request.
- Do not send connection requests as a way to collect owner contact information without genuine rental intent.
4.2 Respectful Communication
- After receiving owner contact details, reach out promptly and professionally.
- Be clear about your requirements, timeline, and expectations.
- Honor scheduled property visits. If you need to cancel, inform the owner in advance.
- Do not share owner contact details with third parties, including other renters, brokers, or agents.
4.3 Responsible Flagging
- Use the flagging system only when you genuinely suspect broker activity, false information, or other violations.
- Provide accurate and specific reasons when submitting a flag.
- Do not use flags to harm legitimate owners, settle personal disputes, or manipulate the Platform.
- Consequences of false flagging: Submitting knowingly false flags is a violation of these Guidelines. Repeated false flagging may result in restrictions on your flagging ability or account suspension.
4.4 Corporate Email Integrity
- Use your own legitimate corporate email address for verification. Do not use borrowed, shared, or fraudulently obtained corporate email addresses.
- If you change employers, update your verification when prompted during re-verification.
5. Guidelines for Owners
5.1 Accurate Listings
- Upload well-lit photographs that accurately represent your property's current condition.
- Provide complete and accurate details: correct address, actual rent amount, accurate deposit requirements, true amenity information, and realistic availability dates.
- Update your listing promptly if any details change (rent, availability, amenities, etc.).
- Do not use photos from the internet, other properties, or from when the property was in significantly different condition.
5.2 Responsive Engagement
- Review and respond to connection requests in a timely manner. Renters are working professionals with genuine interest.
- Older listings automatically receive reduced priority. Consider refreshing your listing with updated photos or details to maintain visibility.
- Mark your property as "Rented" promptly once it is no longer available, to maintain Platform accuracy for other users.
5.3 Fair Treatment of Renters
- Evaluate connection requests fairly based on rental suitability, not on discriminatory criteria.
- Be transparent about all costs: rent, deposit, maintenance charges, and any other fees.
- Do not demand excessive deposits or unfair terms that are not disclosed in the listing.
- Respect the renter's time during property visits and negotiations.
6. Content Standards
6.1 Prohibited Content
The following types of content are prohibited on the Platform:
- False, misleading, or deceptive property information.
- Discriminatory language or tenant preferences based on protected characteristics.
- Offensive, abusive, vulgar, or hateful content.
- Spam, advertisements, or promotional content unrelated to property rental.
- Personal information of other individuals shared without their consent.
- Content that infringes on intellectual property rights of others.
- Content promoting illegal activities.
6.2 Photo Guidelines
- All property photos must be original and taken by the owner or with the owner's permission.
- Photos must accurately represent the current state of the property.
- Heavily edited, filtered, or misleading photos are not permitted.
- Photos must not contain watermarks from other platforms, brokers, or agencies.
- Photos must not contain personal information (Aadhaar numbers, phone numbers, etc.) of any individual.
7. Flagging and Reporting
7.1 When to Flag
Use the flagging system to report:
- Suspected Broker Activity: The listing appears to be posted by a broker or agent rather than a genuine owner.
- False Information: The listing contains inaccurate details about the property, rent, location, or amenities.
- Duplicate Listings: The same property is listed by the same or different accounts.
- Non-Existent Property: The listed property does not exist at the stated address.
- Scam or Fraud: The listing appears to be designed to defraud renters (e.g., requesting advance payments without property visits).
- Discriminatory Content: The listing contains discriminatory language or exclusionary tenant preferences based on protected characteristics.
7.2 How We Handle Reports
- Every flag is reviewed. Multiple flags from different users trigger an expedited investigation.
- Our review process includes automated pattern analysis and manual review of the listing and account.
- Confirmed violations result in listing removal, account suspension, or permanent ban.
- All suspended users have the right to appeal with supporting documentation.
8. Safety Recommendations
While FirstCross verifies users to the best of its ability, we recommend the following safety practices:
- Visit Before Committing: Always visit the property in person before finalizing any rental agreement or making payments.
- Verify Documents: Request and verify property ownership documents before signing a rental agreement.
- Written Agreements: Always execute a formal rental agreement that clearly states all terms, conditions, rent, deposit, and maintenance responsibilities.
- Avoid Advance Payments: Be cautious of requests for large advance payments before viewing the property. Legitimate owners understand the need for property visits before financial commitments.
- Meet in Safe Locations: Schedule property visits during daytime hours. Inform a friend or family member about your visit.
- Trust Your Instincts: If something feels suspicious or too good to be true, flag the listing and move on.
9. Enforcement and Consequences
Violations of these Community Guidelines may result in the following actions, depending on severity and frequency:
- Warning: A formal notice for minor or first-time violations.
- Listing Removal: Immediate removal of listings that violate content standards or accuracy requirements.
- Account Suspension: For confirmed broker activity, serious violations, or multiple accumulated warnings.
- Permanent Ban: For repeat violations, confirmed repeat broker activity, fraud, or severe violations of community trust.
We aim to be fair and transparent in all enforcement actions. Suspended users may appeal decisions, and appeals are reviewed within 7 business days.
10. Your Role in the Community
FirstCross is a community-driven platform. Its success depends on every user's commitment to honesty, respect, and vigilance against broker interference. Here's how you can contribute:
- Be Honest: Provide accurate information in your profile and listings.
- Be Respectful: Treat every interaction as you would want to be treated.
- Be Vigilant: Report suspected broker activity or fraudulent listings to protect the community.
- Be Responsible: Use Platform features (connection requests, flagging) thoughtfully and in good faith.
- Be Active: Keep your listings and profile up to date to maintain a reliable marketplace.
Together, we can build a rental marketplace that is fair, transparent, and truly broker-free.
